Hannah Pingree (Brown ’98)
Representative Hannah Pingree is the Speaker of the Maine House of Representatives, and an alumni of the Brown University College Democrats.
From 2006 to 2008, Rep. Pingree served as Majority Leader within the Maine House of Representatives, and formerly served as the House Chair of the Health and Human Services. She previously served as the Political Director for iVillage.com, one of the largest online hubs for women, and as Coro Public Affairs fellow, working for the New York City Office of Management and Budget among many roles in the public and private sectors.
Joshua Segall (Brown ’01)
Joshua Segall is a candidate for Alabama’s 3rd Congressional District, and an alumni of the Brown University College Democrats.
After graduating in 2001, Segall earned his JD at University of Alabama School of Law, and returned home to Montgomery, and where became Of Counsel with the civil defense law film Memory & Day. As one of the youngest congressional candidates in the United States, Segall made his initial run for the seat in 2008, earning over 47% of the vote in a traditionally deep-red district that voted for McCain, Bush and Dole.
While a student, Segall served as President of the Brown University College Democrats, organizing large groups of student canvassers for the Gore campaign in what fellow Brown alumni have called a “triumph of organizing,” and bringing in a roster of progressives to speak to students which included the late Senator Paul Wellstone. While in Law School, Segall focused on agricultural justice issues, founding the local group Homegrown Alabama.
David Wade (Brown ’97)
David Wade is Chief of Staff for Senator John Kerry, a former President of College Democrats of America, and an alumni of Brown University College Democrats.
During the 2008 Presidential campaign, Wade served as National Press Secretary for Vice President Joe Biden; he had earlier served as National Press Secretary for Senator John Kerry throughout the 2004 election. Between 2004 and 2008, Wade had worked as Communications Director, Deputy Chief of Staff and PAC Director for Senator Kerry; His work for the Kerry and Obama campaigns earned him a profile in Politico earlier this year. As 1996-7 President of College Democrats of America, Wade was a featured speaker at the 1996 Democratic National Convention at the age of 20; previously, he had served as CDA’s National Membership Director and New England Director.
