Liberty University Bans College Democrats - Fight Back!

Liberty University—the largest and fastest-growing Christian Evangelical university in the world—has closed its doors to its campus College Democrats chapter. The Virginia school told chapter leaders plainly: "The Democratic Party platform is contrary to the mission of Liberty University and to Christian doctrine."

The university is telling chapter leaders that they can't use the university's name, hold meetings on campus, or advertise events—if they try, they'll earn a reprimand that could lead to expulsion. Apparently it's not okay to be a Democrat, a Christian, and a Liberty University student all at the same time.

Well, we simply won't stand for it. Fill out the fields below to tell Liberty University's Vice President for Student Affairs to reverse his ruling and allow the Liberty Dems back on campus.

I was deeply disappointed to learn of your decision to ban the Liberty University College Democrats from organizing on campus.

College campuses, no matter their religious affiliation, are prized in this country for their unique potential to foster the vigorous exchange of ideas that is the fount of our democracy and the strength of our nation.  Throwing the College Democrats from campus is an affront to that tradition, and hurts not just the students who claim membership in the club, but also for the campus Republicans who once had the opportunity to learn from their counterparts.

As the chairman of the Democratic National Committee, former Virginia Governor Tim Kaine, has said, "For Liberty University to deprive the College Democrats of the same opportunity as College Republicans to associate and be a recognized as a campus organization violates a fundamental principle of fairness and teaches the students the wrong message about civil life as they move from college into the broader world."

Moreover, your decision as it stands today ignores the deep faith held by the students of the Liberty Democrats chapter -- a faith that has led them to speak out in opposition to an unjust war, to love their neighbors as themselves, and to protect the land that God has lovingly provided to us all.

I respectfully urge you to reconsider your decision immediately, and to invite the Liberty University College Democrats back on campus.
